Cookie consent for Wix: install Cookifi in under 10 minutes

The Wix cookie banner controls Wix's own cookies and integrations — anything you added through Custom Code is outside it. Cookifi goes in through the same Custom Code panel and governs the lot through GTM.

What you need

The site has to be published on a connected domain, which requires a Premium plan (Light and up). Free wixsite.com sites cannot use Custom Code, and the Wix banner itself does not show without a connected domain either.

Install Cookifi on Wix

  1. 1

    Open the Custom Code panel

Dashboard → Settings → Development & integrations → Custom Code.

  2. 2

    Add the Cookifi script

Click + Add Custom Code, paste the Cookifi integration script and give it a name you will recognise later.

  3. 3

Apply it to every page, in the head

Add Code to Pages: All pages → 'Load code once'. Place Code in: Head → Apply.

  4. 4

Publish, then turn the Wix banner off

Publish the site, then switch the Wix cookie banner off under Privacy & Cookies → Edit Cookie Banner so visitors do not get two prompts.

Get your Cookifi script

  1. 1.

In the Cookifi admin click Add, enter a name and your domain — a sitemap URL is optional — and click Create.

  2. 2.

Open the property and copy the script under General → Integration script.

  3. 3.

Click the Google icon in the script toolbar to include the Consent Mode default command. The defaults themselves are set under Regions, together with URL Passthrough and Ads Data Redaction.

  4. 4.

Paste it as high in the <head> as the platform allows, on every page. Save, reload, and confirm the banner appears.

  5. 5.

If the platform strips data- attributes and the banner does not load, switch to Query string mode in the Installation script section and copy the script again.

  6. 6.

Cannot touch the head at all? Use the GTM Installation script in a Custom HTML tag with the Consent Initialization – All Pages trigger. Direct installation is still the recommendation, because ad blockers can suppress GTM.

Consent Mode v2 and GTM on Wix

Wix states that GA, GTM, Meta and TikTok pixels do not work through Custom Code — they have to go through Marketing Integrations, which fire only after consent in the Wix banner, and there is no public hook for pushing a third-party consent state into them. The practical setup is therefore: Wix banner off, GTM loaded through Marketing Integrations, and Cookifi driving consent through GTM's Consent Mode.

What the native Wix banner cannot do

Wix cookie banner (Privacy & Cookies → Edit Cookie Banner)

  • It governs Wix's own cookies and Wix tracking integrations only — scripts added through Custom Code are outside its control.
  • No Google Consent Mode v2 signalling is documented.
  • No per-vendor blocking; placeholder blocking is limited to a fixed list of embeds such as YouTube, Maps and Spotify.
  • It does not appear without a connected domain, and never in the editor or preview.

Gotchas worth knowing

  • Since December 2025 Wix's frontend security measures can block some third-party snippets. If the banner does not appear, switch the Cookifi script to Query string mode and re-paste it.
  • Changing the site's domain deletes every custom-code snippet — re-add the script after a domain move.
  • Wix sites are single-page applications: 'Load code once' means the script is not reloaded as visitors navigate, which is what you want for a CMP.

What you get with Cookifi

Live in under 10 minutes

One script in the head, a scan that suggests the categories for you, and a 14-day trial that needs no card.

A flat base, not a tier ladder

One monthly base from €10 plus usage on read events — the first 10,000 each month are free. Subdomains and team members are unlimited, so a second site is not a second plan.

Support that answers

Live chat and email on every plan, with a human response within one business day on Enterprise. We are a small team, which is why the things customers ask for tend to ship quickly.

Built for the modern stack

Google and Microsoft Consent Mode v2 are first-class, GA4 and GTM are the default path, and Cookifi is a Google-certified CMP partner.

Frequently asked questions

Why can GA and GTM not go in Custom Code?

Wix documents that those pixels do not work from Custom Code and must be added through Marketing Integrations. That is a Wix constraint; it is why GTM is loaded there and Cookifi drives consent through GTM rather than tag by tag.

The banner does not show on my wixsite.com address.

Custom Code needs a published site on a connected domain, which needs a Premium plan. On the free address neither Cookifi nor the Wix banner renders.

Nothing renders even though the script is saved.

Try Cookifi's Query string script mode: Wix's security measures can strip data- attributes from third-party snippets, and the query-string form does not rely on them.
